The Institute for Interdisciplinary Salivary Bioscience Research is a school-based center, housed under the Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health and the School of Social Ecology. It serves as a scientific hub for research, training, and shared resources regarding the biobehavioral processes underlying health and disease with a focus on the use and development of salivary and blood-based biomarkers. IISBR promotes the exchange of ideas, development of collaborations, training of new scientists, and conduct of innovative research via hands-on laboratory experience and education as well as professional analyte assay services and consultation on data analysis and interpretation.
The mission of IISBR is to advance knowledge of biobehavioral processes for health and recovery from illness with a focus on the empirical, clinical, and applied potential of non-invasive biomarkers measured with high ecological validity.
- Build and maintain collaborative scientific programs to evaluate and translate the value of biomarkers to improve individual and community health.
- Provide specialized training, education, and consultation in the use and translation of salivary and other complementary biomarkers.
- Enable access to laboratory services to the University of California and broader scientific community for the assessment of salivary and other complementary biomarkers.
