Research Interests
Dr. Heaney received his doctorate from the University of Chapel Hill School of Public Health. He is an environmental epidemiologist and microbiologist with a long-term interest in the health consequences and prevention of environmental and occupational exposures to pathogens and toxicants, specifically those associated with food production, community land use, and waste disposal practices. Dr. Heaney’s research bridges two disciplines – population-based epidemiologic research and bench laboratory science – and aims to integrate advanced methods from both into community-based participatory research (CBPR) studies.
