Lab Training
Spit Camp: Salivary Analyte Basics & Lab Training
Spit Camp provides an open forum environment, scientific lectures, and carefully constructed hands-on lab experiments, in which you will learn both basic and advanced strategies for incorporating saliva into your research. Gain practical knowledge/experience in salivary bioscience, while building relationships, collaborations, sharing ideas and getting valuable feedback.
This two-day workshop led by IISBR Core Faculty is designed for faculty, post-doctoral scholars and researchers wanting to learn more about salivary bioscience. Spit Camp combines lecture/didactic and hands-on laboratory training. There is a focus on the theoretical perspectives of salivary bioscience, use of oral fluid as biological specimens, practical aspects of sample handing, collection, study design, and the basics of salivary immunoassays. The laboratory component includes hands-on, supervised training on sample processing, salivary immunoassay and kinetic reaction assays, as well as learning basic wet-lab procedures. Samples will be collected and assayed, then data will be generated for group discussion and analysis.
All camps are held on the UCI Campus in Social Ecology I. Registration is required. Please contact us for updated pricing and additional information.
